Active Economics

The SEA's "active economics" program is the brainchild of Dan Moody (a distinguished December 2004 graduate and former SEA president) and Ryan Knapp (who graduated in May 2005 and currently works for Aplia in San Francisco). The purpose is to bring economic analysis to local high school classes. At present, we have four engaging presentations, including:

Powerpoint programs are already in place, but our experienced presenters are at liberty to use and modify them to fit style and audience.

The SEA is fortunate and proud to have the Arizona Council on Economics Education as a partner organization in this exciting activity. Under the leadership of Amy Willis, the ACEE provides guidance and a steady source of highly motivated high school teachers and students.

Teachers:  If you wish to have an active economics presentation in your class, download the Form for Teachers.

SEA Members:  To get involved in the program, download the Form for Presenters. After a brief familiarization with the slide presentations, you will qualify to accompany a master presenter and bring your economic knowledge and speaking skills to the classroom!

In order to lead a presentation on any of the above topics, you must qualify as a "master presenter" in that topic. Although we have not established any rigid requirements to qualify you as a master presenter, you are expected to have participated in at least two presentations on the topic.

Even if you are unable to participate in the actual presentations, you may wish to contribute some research time to upgrade and update the presentations. Participation in active economics is a volunteer activity, but community service credit will be given.
